jQuery – Cookie Manipulation

May 17, 2011

Okay, you can call me the web designer who has been living under a rock (wow, now that I think about it this must hold true for some. :P) but I’ve only harnessed the power of jQuery recently (on a website I’m working on). I was reading up the documentation until I couldn’t find something I was looking for: setting cookies via jQuery.

Since I want the code to be organized I was thinking of doing everything Javascript via jQuery anyway (hey, it’s write less, do more. ;)) For those of you who can’t find it, there’s a cookie plugin for jQuery available at their repository. Click here. Kudos to the author,ย carhartl, as this was the exact thing I’m looking for. Everything can be done, reading, setting and deleting cookies, via a single $.cookie() function.

Hey, at least I have content for today. ๐Ÿ˜€ Stay tuned for I may have more stories to tell about my jQuery escapades. Or whatever.

My experience with “Fun Mode”

July 10, 2010

So I enabled fun mode a few days ago. And I still don’t know what it does, somewhat. ๐Ÿ˜ Still, I’m enjoying and expecting (good) surprises as I play along. ๐Ÿ˜€

For those of you who don’t know, it’s a WordPress ( only) feature that is actually quite vague. It doesn’t have any concise description as a setting, and when enabled you won’t see the effects immediately. Technically speaking, it’s just an easter egg.ย Metaphorically speaking, it’s a way to experience “serendipity” if you truly love blogging.

If you’re only going to enable it if you want to see for yourself, without the “sincerity” in loving your blogging experience, then you’d probably be disappointed in this feature. Otherwise, you’re in for a thrill. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So far, what I’ve seen after enabling it is the addition of the “Humanize” tab in the Blog Stats. I don’t know what it does yet, so I can’t say much.

Other things I’ve seen include a “This post is super-awesome” checkbox when publishing a post. I checked it once but nothing happened. One time, the Publish button doubled its size, but when I added a new post, it went back to normally. Somewhat creepy, but interesting nonetheless.

And if you were looking for hints on what to expect in Fun mode, trust me, you’re just ruining the fun for yourself. Half the thrill in this WP feature is finding the new stuff that you normally don’t see. It’s for blogaholics, so to speak. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If you own a blog and love blogging, don’t hesitate to try this out. Have fun! ๐Ÿ˜€
